Barefoot shoes depend on one thing above all: fit. Natural barefoot walking only works when your toes can move freely, feel the ground and let your foot muscles do their job. That is why we make our SOLE RUNNER® barefoot shoes in three widths: Regular or Normal, Wide and Extra Wide. This page gathers all our normal-width models – the right choice for feet with a narror to normal width.
Why does shoe width matter so much? Because feet are not uniform. Some people have slim feet, others very broad feet or a high instep. A barefoot shoe that is too narrow squeezes the toes together and takes away the freedom of movement that makes natural walking possible. A shoe that is too wide slips around and fails to hold the foot securely. The normal width of our SOLE RUNNER® barefoot shoes is designed to give your forefoot enough room to splay while keeping the midfoot comfortably supported.

What should you look for in normal-width barefoot shoes? Check that the toe box follows the natural shape of the foot – wider at the toes than at the heel. Make sure the sole is flexible and allows an effortless rolling motion, because a stiff sole takes away work your foot should be doing itself. Low weight supports a light, natural gait. And measure your feet in the evening, as feet can swell slightly during the day. Within the normal width, aim for about a thumb's width of space in front of your longest toe.

Many conventional shoes taper narrowly at the toe and push the foot into a shape that does not match its anatomy. It does not have to be that way. A good barefoot shoe should not support or force the foot into a particular shape; it should protect it and allow as much natural movement as possible. This is the principle we have followed for many years.

Can normal-width barefoot shoes be worn every day? Yes. From the office to walking, travelling or sport, our normal-width models cover many areas of life – from light summer shoes and sneakers to waterproof winter models. If you wear shoes for most of the day, it matters even more that they support your foot health instead of restricting it.

Walking barefoot remains the foundation: no shoe replaces the feeling of walking on grass, sand or wooden floors. A barefoot shoe protects you where shoes are necessary – while keeping the sensation of the ground as authentic as possible. Research and biomechanical reasoning suggest that free toe movement and flexible rolling can activate the foot muscles. We promise no miracles, but we do promise thoughtful construction.

Our SOLE RUNNER® barefoot shoes are produced sustainibly and fairly and support a healthy way of walking.
since 2015 our barefoot shoes are certified as an ergonomic product and we are three times winner of the Innovation Award.

If you are unsure which width suits you, simply measure your feet, compare the inner measurements of our models – or just ask us. We are happy to help you make a conscious, informed choice for your foot health.
